R.I.P  21/09/1930 - 05/06/2007

Beginnings

I was born and raised in West Ridgely, Tasmania Australia during the depression years of the early 1930's. My Father and I farmed the German Bismark potato, trapped rabbits and fished for trout in many of the rivers and streams. My Mother was an avid fisherwoman landing many bream and blackfish from the rivers. I grew up with six sisters, all of which became teachers.

Career

I started my working life at Burnie Paper Mills, there I met my future wife, Mary Connor whom I married before leaving Tasmania for Queensland. I followed employment with the paper mill to its associated company at the Burnie Board Mill outside Ipswich. Mary and I raised eight children from 1959 on, an onerous task indeed. The Burnie Board mill changed hands to become Associated Pulp and Paper Mills (APPM) and it was then acquired by Colonial Sugar Refineries (CSR). I retired after more than 30 years service. I was shift foreman at that stage.

Hobbies and Interests

My passions include fishing and gardening. After our retirement and our children leaving home we moved to Bribie Island.  Whenever there is a fine morning forecast, I am out on the water chasing the fish. I still keep a neat and productive garden growing tomatoes, leafy greens and chillies. I have many Australian native trees and shrubs growing to bring our birds and other fauna.

Goals

To lead a happy and healthy life through retirement watching my grandchildren flourish.
